Marielund/Språkskolan is looking for an Academic Support Staff Member

Our school is located on the outskirts of the Marielund residential area, offering proximity to nature, green spaces, and the sports facility Gränsvallen. Nearby the school, you will also find a skate park, ice rink, football field, and equestrian center. At our school, we are linguistically rich, as Finnish and Swedish are primarily combined in both language and culture in a calm environment.

The school offers a operation with well-educated educators who work to make our school and all learning situations accessible to everyone. The school prioritizes reading and language acquisition highly and is the only school in Haparanda that offers reading instruction in Finnish.

Your responsibilities

The work involves student support interventions, both individually and in groups. The academic support staff member follows the student or student group throughout their school day and works as a resource for learning during lesson time. This may involve general support in the classroom, guidance of students in smaller groups, support for an individual student, or delegated responsibility for the whole class while the teacher guides a smaller group. The main responsibility for planning instruction lies with the teacher. Together, we strive for an active relationship-building approach. This is complemented daily by offering thoughtful and planned pedagogical environments that are constantly developing. The starting point is to continuously try to capture interests, big and small, and make them accessible to as many students as possible.

You will work in a pleasant school where there is close collaboration among all colleagues. Through this role, the academic support staff member contributes to increased goal achievement and equity between schools in the City of Haparanda.

Work in the after-school center (fritidshem) is part of the position.

Your profile

You are responsible, structured, and quality-conscious. You take initiative and want to support students so they can reach their goals. You have a positive and inclusive attitude, good collaboration skills, and communicate from a solution-focused perspective in every meeting with colleagues, students, and parents.

You have strong pedagogical skills and can inspire and engage students in learning based on their different needs, varying your instruction accordingly. We see that you are a confident and experienced leader with good knowledge of leading a student group towards curriculum goals, both knowledge-based and value-based. Furthermore, you easily build trusting relationships. You value close collaboration with colleagues, students, parents, and school leadership, are open to others' knowledge, strive to always develop your teaching, and participate in collegial learning. We see the "red thread" as important for meeting students and following them over time.

It is an advantage if you have:

• Childcare education or social pedagogical education
• Experience working with children and young people
• Knowledge and experience working with students who are struggling or have special needs.

The employment

The employment is a fixed-term position for the academic year 2026/2027.
